Deep Sky (Travis Chase)

Deep Sky (Travis Chase)

Deep Sky (Travis Chase)

This is the much-awaited completion to Lee's "Breach" trilogy. Don't even think about buying it until you've read the first two, because there isn't a lot of explanation and you'll be pretty much lost.

Travis and Paige are back and once again, trying to react to an unforeseen series of catastrophes. As with the second book, they're joined by computer-whiz Bethany, but this time she's pretty much just along for the ride. It's hard to describe this book without giving too much away, but suffice to say, besides the usual array of baffling and dangerous artifacts, we also have to deal with some strange time travel.

On the plus side, there's plenty of action, and it's great to finally have the Breach explained. On the minus side, this is by far the weakest of the three books, and most unsatisfying. In several ways, I was reminded of the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey". Compelling, but at the end you can't help but go, "huh?", at least a bit.

If you've read the first two, you have to read this one. Even though the finale could have been a bit better, the overall trilogy is some of the best action/sci-fi to come along in years.

Death Comes Creeping - A Suspense About Your Life

Death Comes Creeping - A Suspense About Your Life

Death Comes Creeping - A Suspense About Your Life

Last nite I began reading, and I finished the book today. This author must write more books! I couldn't put it down. He writes so well, and so logically, and everything just flowed. It really touched me. One thing I notice about writers of nonfiction is that what they have to say is pretty well said in the first chapter or two. The rest of the the book drags along, and it's almost like they keep writing and writing and writing just to fill pages. With this book, it was pure meat start to finish.

The Breach

The Breach

The Breach

I've tried reading thrillers before, but they never really thrilled me. Ticking clock, world's going to end, bulky hero with unlimited martial prowess. Boring.

Then I read The Breach and my concept of thriller was turned on its head. By page 8, Travis Chase stumbles across a downed plane with the First Lady on board. From then on the tension does not stop. There is no dreary exposition, drawn out descriptions, or useless subplots. Places to rest end up being the exact opposite.

At times, I put the book down to just think about how amazing it was. There are scenes I had to process bits at a time so that I was sure to savor every line.

And the action. Thrillers I've read before (and maybe I've just been unlucky, I've only read a few) have basic action. He shot the gun, he dove under the table, etc. The action is this book is so crisp, so visual, it's disturbing. Sometimes very disturbing.

All the high tension cards stack up until the end, when they're blown down in one big twist that will leave you shaking your head and smiling and wishing book 1 would morph into book 2 in your hands.

H.T. Night has the ability to show the reader real dialogue. The books aren't the same old stories. I love reading a male perspective on things. Especially when the males are as sexy as Josiah and Tommy.

Kill Alex Cross

Kill Alex Cross

Kill Alex Cross

I have to disagree with the other reviews on here - this latest Alex Cross novel is fantastic! The President of the United States has had his two teenage children kidnapped from their high-security school whilst at the same time, terrorist attacks are being carried out all over Washington DC. It's Alex's job, as well as pretty much every department imaginable, to see whether these two major incidents are connected as well bringing the children to safety and stopped further attacks on the capital.

As always with this series, the action is pretty much non-stop from the opening chapter. Old characters return and new ones are introduced and as the story is told from many points of view rather than just from Alex's this time it gives a bigger picture of this exciting tale as it unfolds. The story is continually fast-paced and thoroughly exciting, it had me sneaking a read of it every chance I could get (I love having the Kindle app on my iPhone!).

I've been looking forward to this book all year and I wasn't disappointed. If you're a fan of the series then I would definitely recommend reading this. It's gone from the serial killer thriller territory to a more anti-terrorism theme and it works very well. I just wish James Patterson would hurry up with the Alex Cross/Women's Murder Club cross-over that was hinted in Cross Fire (Alex Cross) now.

Phalaenopsis Culture Plus

Phalaenopsis Culture Plus

There's not really anything in here that can't be found on the internet. It's very basic and quick to read. However, the presentation and the information is clear and simple enough to help a beginner learn and understand the concept of caring for their Phals without having to read a large novel about it. Personally, I feel it's a good reference for those that aren't internet savvy, and maybe even good enough for some that are.

Breach of Trust

Breach of Trust

Breach of Trust

In this suspense-filled novel, Mills wraps in romance, a solid dose of character faith, and more than one plot twist.

Paige Rogers is the librarian in a small town in Oklahoma. On the surface, she's a smart, caring, Christian with good friends and the romantic interest of the high school's football coach. Underneath it all is a past no one would have expected. Once a former CIA agent, Paige was living her life in the fast lane until a covert mission went wrong and she nearly died. She was betrayed by their leader, threatened, and forced to start her life over. But new news surfaces about her past and she begins to wonder if her decision was the right one. Now she must confront the past and potentially lose everything she's worked so hard for in her new home. And she's tested to keep safe the ones she loves and unravel the clues that will expose the man behind the betrayal.

For my first Diann Mills book, I was impressed with her technique and the seamless flow of the story. It was a quick read and kept me interested.

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

I hope all readers take time to read A CHRISTMAS CAROL in the original language Dickens used in the 1840's. Dickens' language remains humorous, descriptive and insightful and not inaccessible to most modern readers especially with the use of a good glossary. This is a great read aloud for families at Christmas time and also a great introduction to Dickens and other Victorian writers. Don't settle for an abridged version. Read this masterpiece the way it was intended
