Deep Sky (Travis Chase)
This is the much-awaited completion to Lee's "Breach" trilogy. Don't even think about buying it until you've read the first two, because there isn't a lot of explanation and you'll be pretty much lost.Travis and Paige are back and once again, trying to react to an unforeseen series of catastrophes. As with the second book, they're joined by computer-whiz Bethany, but this time she's pretty much just along for the ride. It's hard to describe this book without giving too much away, but suffice to say, besides the usual array of baffling and dangerous artifacts, we also have to deal with some strange time travel.
On the plus side, there's plenty of action, and it's great to finally have the Breach explained. On the minus side, this is by far the weakest of the three books, and most unsatisfying. In several ways, I was reminded of the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey". Compelling, but at the end you can't help but go, "huh?", at least a bit.
If you've read the first two, you have to read this one. Even though the finale could have been a bit better, the overall trilogy is some of the best action/sci-fi to come along in years.
